Cosmos: 2013 Bay Gelding

Overview:  Cosmos is a 16.2H 2013 Warmblood gelding by the top hunter sire Cabardino out of a Rio Grande grandaughter (Click here for pedigree).  He is currently competing in the 2'9" and 3' hunters with a pro.  He also has some mileage in the 2'6" children's hunters and the 2'9" hunters also with a child.  He is ready for his next career with a child or adult partner. Cosmos is brave and he has a great jump. At the shows, he knows his job at 2'6" and 2'9". At 3' he can use a little more polish, but should continue to improve with a professional or an advanced adult/child rider. We believe he could be a competitive Adult/Children's 2'6" or 2'9' partner with the scope to move up. You can view video footage of Cosmos by clicking on the following link:  Cosmos Videos. Show Mileage and Potential:  Cosmos has competed at several A and AA shows in the Northeast to include HITS Saugerties, Old Salem Farm and Ox Ridge. Some of his individual accomplishments include first place in the HITS Hunter 2 M&S (2'6") out of a field of 19, a championship ribbon in the HITS Hunter 2 (2'6") also out of a field of 19, and a tricolor in the 2'6" childrens hunters out of a field of seven at an Old Salem Farm A show.  We believe in time, Cosmos could likely cross over to the equitation ring.

Under Saddle:  Cosmos is well broke, comfortable to sit, and he has a competitive jump. At home, he is a little bit of a leg ride. Cosmos has a big step, he can be handy, has great lead changes; that are almost automatic; and he knows the counter canter, yet he is easy enough for an intermediate adult rider to flat. Under saddle, he is generally calm willing, and fun to ride.

Trainability:  Cosmos aims to please. He is smart, retains his training well and has a good work ethic.

Preferred Rider:  At 2'6", and 2'9" Cosmos knows his job well.  He can take a joke, and he performs well for a rider that keeps a supportive leg and encourages his natural bascule.  At 3' and higher, he can use a little more polish but we believe he will continue to improve in program where he is supervised by a professional.

On the Ground:  Cosmos generally has very good ground manners.  He enjoys being groomed and bathed. He enjoys attention and adores treats. He is usually very agreeable and cooperative. He knows his job, and is good to clip, load, bathe, ship, etc.  He stands politely on the cross ties, and goes on the treadmill.

Temperament:  Cosmos is a curious, laid-back, tolerant and good-brained horse. Cosmos likes to cuddle in his stall after a long day and he adores peppermints.

At the Show:  We ship in to most shows. In the morning, Cosmos will be free lunged or line lunged at home. After arriving at the show, sometimes he is lunged again briefly before he is hacked in the AM.  He usually does best if he can have a "warm up" class in his ring before his division.

Program:  Cosmos is currently being ridden about 5 times a week and schools over fences once or twice a week depending on his show schedule. He is accustomed to being hacked by an adult rider at home.  Cosmos is an average keeper.  Like all our horses, he receives turnout as weather permits.  He is accustomed to being turned out in either a sand sacrifice paddock or a half-acre grass paddock.  He enjoys light hacks in large grass fields or on bridle paths.
