Campari: 10-Year Old Bay Gelding
Overview: Campari is a 17H 10 year old Warmblood gelding by Cabardino out of a Rio Grande Mare (Click here for pedigree). This fellow is very fancy and we believe he has the potential to be a great derby, A/O or Junior mount. You can view video footage of Campari by clicking on the following link: Campari Videos. USEF #5225512.
Show Mileage and Potential: Campari has competed at a number of top venues in the 3'6" Green Hunters like Devon, Old Salem Spring, The Hampton Classic and HITS Saugerties to name a few. During his 3'6" green hunter year, he was reserve HOTY champion in Zone II. Campari also has derby mileage having competed in the Devoucoux Derbies and the Diamond Mills Derby Finals both held at HITS Saugerties. After his 3'6" year, Campari showed at WEF in the 2'6" adults, winning some u/s and fence classes amongst good company and securing a reserve championship for the circuit in the same division. We believe Campari would be a great mount for an amateur/junior rider looking for a competitive 3'6" partner with the step and scope to go higher. At 17H, Campari is a big slow type, with plenty of step to get down the lines and he is fancy enough to earn top ribbons.
Under Saddle: Campari has a naturally balanced and rhythmical canter which makes it easy to maintain a nice consistent pace and find the jumps. Campari is a tall fancy young fellow that has a great presense in the show ring. He is extremely scopey, very competitive and he wants to be good and and win for his rider. Campari is a very kind, honest and willing partner. His advanced flatwork includes the counter canter and great lead changes. His gaits are easy to sit, his stride is steady and he is well broke. Campari is more of a leg ride, yet he is easy to frame, handy, adjustable and responsive.
Trainability: Campari aims to please. He is smart, retains his training well and has a good work ethic. He learns quickly and is the same horse each day.
Preferred Rider: Campari performs well for an effective rider that keeps a leg and encourages his natural bascule.
On the Ground: Campari has exceptional ground manners. He enjoys being groomed and bathed and he adores attention and apples. This gentle, charming, young man is very agreeable and tolerant. He has no vices and is a pleasure to have in the barn. Campari has a great brain and is very easy on the ground. He clips, loads, bathes and ships. Campari is very well mannered with a content personality.
Temperament: Campari is a quiet, sweet, affectionate young man. He is easy-going, laid back, with a puppy dog personality and he truly is a barn favorite.
Program: Campari is currently being ridden 4-5 times a week by a pro, with at least one training ride a week. He has also thrived in a program where he was being ridden by an adult several days a week with one pro training ride a week. Campari is an extremely easy keeper. Like all our horses, he receives turnout as weather permits.
